Alcohol and other drug misuse is associated with a range of far reaching problems that affect students, families and the community (addiction, suicide, domestic abuse, violence, traffic fatalities, physical or sexual abuse, and drowning). Our Prevention programs, groups, and curriculum take place directly in the Rapid City & Custer Schools and is designed to benefit all students.
Youth to Youth Groups
In this peer to peer style program students work with Lifeways Counselors to help their peers make positive choices. By providing peer to peer education and creating awareness in the schools, Lifeways and our youth are creating positive change.
Education Groups for At Risk Students
Lifeways offers three different levels of prevention education and intensive prevention education classes. These classes range from 8 to 20.5 hours for students and all classes include an educational family session that focuses on providing families with ATOD brain education, healthy activities to do with your family and communication skill building.
Newcomer Groups
Students who are new to the community and school are considered to have an increased risk and this group offers new students an overview of positive ways to "fit in" to their new school.
Prevention Education in the Classroom
Our Lifeways Counselors provide evidenced based social, emotional learning and skill building (i.e. alcohol, other drugs, bullying, stress management, coping and problem solving) presentations and programs directly in the classrooms.
Outreach for School and Community
Our outreach for schools and our community includes training, presentations and consultations regarding important trends in prevention (i.e.: methamphetamine awareness in the schools and community).
